Update

Just a little update on my progress. I have just finished dropped my 5th stitch, and am just a row or so from dropping my sixth, so things are coming along nicely although I would like to be just a bit further along. Absorbment in the Harry Potter books has slowed me down considerably, although I'll run out of those soon so I'll pick up steam again sometime next week. Things look good for getting it done in time for the mail-deadline (past which things wont arrive before christmas). My sisters present however, is another story. She's moving again, but failed to give anyone her new address >:( but thats hardly my fault. Shes one of those 'dont turn her cellphone on, or answer it 90% of the time people, so if she wants her present, she can call for it :P

Kate Gilbert Knitcast

I listened to the Kate Gilbert Knitcast again today. Now that I am familiar with the pattern something really interesting about it struck me - she said that she designed it to be worn with the purl side out, not the knit side. And that the Lion & Lamb yarn was better if left unblocked - that it will curl upon itself and make a lovely twisty scarf.

That's the way the girl is wearing it in the pictures, and I quite like it. I may decide not to block mine. Or just wash it and throw it in a heap somewhere to dry.

I'm hot on your trail, sister!

Terrible color

the color in this pic is terrible...

Progress Photo.

Yesterday was Finish First Pair of Slippers Day as well as being Thanksgiving, so Clapotis was again relegated to second choice, poor dear. But to show my love for h er, here's a current photo:

Oof

Y'all are kicking my butt. I did a few rows tonight. I'm on row 9 of straight repeat #4.

I got some NIFTY secret pal gifts, AND I baked cookies, AND I didn't knit during LOST, so...

maybe some knitting tomorrow in the car...

Progress:

Got one more repeat finished. Munchkin didn't take as long a nap as anticipated. I am now on Row 7, Repeat #6 of Straight Section. Nearly HALF done! Thinking about making it longer...doing a couple more repeats of the straight section...whaddaya think?

Happy Thanksgiving ladies!

Todays homework

Time to sit down and do todays commitment to my clapotis, at least two repeats of the pattern. Been busy all today so I havent had the chance to get to it yet. Found out today from my father that one of the family dogs (he has one with him in England, I have the other with me) was missing for 4 days after darting off in the park. Fortunately she was microchipped and they put out the word that she was missing, so she was found relatively quickly, although 20 miles away! She hasnt lived there very long, so I suppose she hasnt had the chance to get geographically aquainted yet. I'm just happy she's back at home and safe.

Hi!

I did about six rows of mine last night and I'm no longer concerned about running out of yarn. I'm three rows into my fourth repeat and still not out of my first skein, so if I can get the same amount out of another skein that leaves me a lousy five pattern repeats to do with the last skein.

Yess!

Sleepy Kirsten.

Just went and played games with friends.
Am tired now.
Was at work at 4:30am and it is now 10:10pm.
Was at CloseKnit (new LYS) from 12-5:30...isn't that a bit obsessive? But it's so nice. Chairs to knit in. Yarn to fondle. People to help/talk to.
Should go straight to sleep but will knit several rows of Clapotis because I miss her so.

Though

If I am already out of one skein, and I've knit (14 rows + (6 12 row repeats) + (2 12 row repeats) +3 rows)...that is, roughly 9.5 12-row repeats...ok, then for rounding's sake, let's say I just did 9 repeats of pattern, then in a perfect world my next skein would do that, except the rows are bigger, and the decrease skein will knit the same amount...that is...humph...(scribble scribble) I need to get 9 total repeats out of my second skein, and I REALLY HOPE I can do that, but I am thinking for safety's sake I ought to get one more, and if I don't need it, it will become socks.

SO

set-up + increase + 2 straight repeats = skein 1 (220 yd)
9 repeats of straight section = skein 2 (220 yd)
decrease + 2 straight repeats = skein 3 (220 yd)

should I get a 4th skein???

Funny, from Grumperina -

crapoteelove

Ow, my hand hurts

I am hot on Kirsten's trail! I am about 20 yards away from finishing my first skein (give or take). I finished straight repeat #2, dropped another stitch, and am on row 3 of my third straight repeat.

This is a lot of stitches! But the pattern is addictive - very easy to do while watching, say, Medium in 3-D.

Fun!

Yayy, my first knitalong :)

Hello, this is my very first post on this knitalong, and I'm all silly with excitement! :P My clapotis is coming along, I'm just starting the last repeat of the Section Two (increase rows) which is the furthest I've gone so far without starting over. And now that I'm using lifelines, I won't ever have to frog the whole thing again! The colors are turning out really nice I think, too. Tomorrow I'll be starting on the straight rows, which I hope I don't screw up by being so used to doing the increase rows. At least I'll have my lifelines to save me :P. Now I'm gonna work on my sisters toque while I watch the rest of Iron Chef America :D

Hmph

Finished my first straight-section row today. Went to LYS with Kate (!!) to browse and knit. I also worked a couple rounds on Jaywalkers, but spent most of the time on Guitar Boy sock #2, because I am testing my own pattern-writing skills at the moment.

They are comfy, but I messed up some stuff on the toe and need to reknit it.

Anyway, plugging away...

:o)

I finished my first skein today. While watching The Fabulous Life of Usher, which didn't for one minute make me think his life was Fabulous--rather, Pitiful and Selfish. Excuse me while I go VOMIT.

Steetch and Beetch

Went tonight to my favorite SnB. Sheila helped me with Clapotis a great deal - I had just dropped my FIRST stitch!! and I was a little nervous it wasn't right, and she helped me see that it was.

I seriously need to work on Guitar Boy socks - he is Asking for Them. Yipes! One more inch on the foot and then the toe. Should have bought another needle and done two at once.

I think socks keep me sane. But I am really liking Clapotis! I told several women the story of how we decided to do this, and it was cool.

HI KIRSTEN!

None yesterday

We had tornados all over the place, sirens, mass hysteria. To calm my nerves I made one of these (if you want to download the English pdf of the pattern click here) in some lovely lovely lovely KnitPicks Sock Garden. They aren't for me so no more info for a bit. :)

Make some! Quick knit!

Ok, wait. Kirsten, do NOT start another project! So far I have Guitar Man socks, Clapotis, Jaywalker Socks, Socklets, and Irish Hiking Scarf.

That I can think of.

Woo

Much earlier tonight, and it's not as if I've been knitting non-stop since then, I finished my increase rows and knit my FIRST straight row! One of 144.

Well, since I put it that way...harumph. But I did work until 8 and have to stop over at the makeup counter because I disastrously thought that using L'Oreal (or a long-wear, not sure which) makeup was a good idea. You know, the prescriptions to clear it up cost more than getting the right makeup in the first place.

I ain't too bright.

Feast or famine.

I was going like crazy last Thursday and Friday. The pattern is a bit addicting. Then the weekend came, along with a new sock project (WHAT?), and I haven't touched the wee Clapotis for 2 days. Poor little girl misses me, I'm sure. I have gotten myself to the 3rd repeat on the straight section, however. Will have to apply the Jen-math to figure out what that percentage is and update the bar.

Yeah, watch out for that "more" word...it gets you again a couple times. Like on the straight section: 12 MORE times. Yeesh. That's a lot of repeats! But dropping those stitches is fun!

Yesterday

I got confused on Clapotis. The word I missed was MORE. Repeat increase rows 6 MORE times. I knew I had done them 5 times, so why wasn't I even CLOSE to 101 stitches? Because I am supposed to do them 6 MORE times, or 7 times TOTAL.

So argh, I have one more increase repeat to knit. And I did these rows while watching Saving Private Ryan, which was a bit dodgy and I missed some of the movie, but no worries!

I am making progress. Let's see what I can slam out today. :^)

Lots of Knitting Today!

I finished my fourth and (possibly, can't remember) fifth increase sections tonight. Also part of a sock which has actually been requested by you-know-who, which needs to be black, machine-wash house sock (so I'm using Wool-Ease and sort of combined the gauge and stitch pattern from a ribbed sock freebie with a turned heel/gusset theory from Jaywalker. Ok, I'm past the heel, and it was really fun to just sort of throw things together and see what happened. Trouble is, he's gone this weekend and I can't really knit it anymore until I can put it on his foot and see how long to make it.

So it's Clapotis for me!

Also I realized that I knitted two further decrease rows on Jaywalker than I needed to. Step 1 is to try on and see if it fits ok; step 2 is rip back or not. I love this sock but it's been giving me fits. Definitely not a project to work on when I only have a spare minute.

Some chicks at the Knittyboard are also knitting Clapotis. I told them about our blog. Hi Chicks!!!

No knitting yesterday

I was just beat-up tired and slightly sad over my trip cancellation. Today I'm crampy and tired, so maybe I will get a lot done.

I'd like to finish my sock by Sunday and get through the increase section on Clapotis as well. I told you I wouldn't go that fast!

That's so awesome!

Entirely.

Owing to LOST (mostly) and a mad frenzy of housecleaning to get ready for a shoot tomorrow, I did not work on her tonight. I did, however, finish knitting Kyle's hat to go with his scarf.

Pics on my blog. Hope you had a lovely day!

Well.

VERY PRETTY MISS JEN! I love those colors. Very Jen. :o)

I think I prefer not to use my size 5 Denise. The join is wonky because the cord is basically the same size as the needle. Oh well. Don't think I have much choice--no other size 5 needle around unless I go with straight and that would make me even more cranky. Maybe if I had some lovely Lantern Moon rosewood straights I would be more inclined to use them...

Currently I am finishing the 6th repeat of the increase rows. Pretty excited that I hav the correct number of stitches on the needles! :o)

Sydney (nanny child) was blowing kisses to herself in the mirror after her bath. Darling, I tell ya.

Pretty, Kirs!

Full disclosure from me...

Progress

Close-up

Yours is REALLY pretty. I like how your stitch markers coordinate!

Here she is!

Well, up to this point.

Clapotis, 11-8-05

See where it's turning on the right corner? That is where I had to pick up the row. And you know what? I had to do it again like 4 rows later. Dingbat.

Here's the closeup:

It's the teeny-tiny row of stitches...much smaller than the rows up in the lefthand corner.

Oh poo. KnittyPoo that is...and a bunch of off-topic stuff that would be better suited for my OTHER blog.

I made a boo-boo. I must have forgotten an increase as well. While sitting in my favorite lovely coffee shop I realized that I had one spot of K1, KTBL, K2, KTBL. Stink. So I had to come home to remedy the situation because I couldn't figure it out sitting there all cozy and warm. But I had to stop and buy tea first. I ran out. This is unacceptable and had to be remedied, even though I had just enjoyed my Habanero Mocha. In the process of choosing tea (went with Stash Green and White Fusion and Yogi Cold Season) and then wandering around the store I found a new section of the store...a GLUTEN-FREE section of the store! Oh joy! Oh rapturous bliss! I nearly cried, but instead just picked up packages and smiled a lot. GF cookies, GF bread, GF granols bars, GF soup, GF...well, EVERYTHING! It is a happy day.

Try it now - I put the colors in quotes and I think that helps...

I just ate at Panera with Joanie. :) Habanero Mocha does sound delightful!!!

This is so much fun already!

Several things.

I don't see any colors on the progress bars. It makes me so sad.

Coolio about Blog This.

I'm going to Jim and Patty's Coffee to knit for a little while now. I will have a scrumptious Habanero Mocha. And knit. And than when I come home I will update the progress bar with my new progress. It will be so exciting for me! Thanks for the tutorial.

I like you. And I'm glad we're knitting something together. :o)

PS

Do you know how to adjust the progress bars? It's in the template...I'll show you if you don't know.

Also, I based the percentages I put up there on the following. Silly me, I calculated the number of rows in the total piece (329) and then figured how far I was (row 49) and made a ratio and came up at 15%. I just put you at the same - change if you want. I am GEEKY that way.

So, for the bar adjustment: Go to the Dashboard and click the tab for Template. Scroll down until you see this:

< h2 class="sidebar-title">Knits in Progress:< /h2>
Kirsten's Clapotis!
< div style="display: block; text-align: left">< script language="javascript"> drawProgressBar('cc6699', 100, 15);< /script>< /div>
Jen's Clapotis!
< div style="display: block; text-align: left">< script language="javascript"> drawProgressBar('cc9966', 100, 15);< /script>< /div>

(I had to fill that with holes to make it show up)

The 'cc6699' is your progress colour, and the 100 is the total value of the bar. 15 is the percent done. You can change any of those three values - but not any others. Then click "Save Template Changes" and Republish the blog. You're done!

I'm so jealous

About that Yarn Shop. :)

Well, the thing you have to know about me is that I really work in fits and starts. I worked on it last night, and because it's new I'll probably pound away tonight as much as I can, but then I'm going to want to go back to my Grumperina footie, and then I'll feel guilty about not working on the Irish Hiking Scarf, and then I'll want to start my modified Cozy scarf, and then all of a sudden I'll remember I have Clapotis to knit!

I forgot some increase at the end of a purl row two rows down from where I was and managed to fix it. I didn't realize I knew enough about knitting to know how to make up a stitch and tighten up the place it was in, but I did!

So hurrah!

You know about BlogThis, don't you? If you click that in the toolbar you get a pulldown menu and can chhoose which blog to post to - and do your post right there. It's right up there. See it? Next to the Blogger logo?

How fun!

I fear I am trying to post to far too many blogs...but it's oh so fun!

I meant what I said and I said what I meant, an elephan...wait, no, that's not what I said. What I said was: Jen will fly through this and Kirsten will fiddle fart. Proof thus far: Kirsten has had one week to work on project; Jen has had one day to work on project. Kirsten is pretty sure Jen caught up to her IN ONE NIGHT! ACKKK! :o)

Yay! I'm so excited about this blog. It's so fun, fun, fun!

Off to shower. I just got home from FedEx--3:30am to 10 am is a long day there. I usually only get 4 hours or so. Crazy.

Have I mentioned the LYS that is opening 1.2 miles from my apartment??? Do you know that I am so excited about this that I may pee my pants?!?

Clapotis de Kirsten photo to be posted later today...progress photos are fun, right?

Good night tonight

I got through the second of the first six 12-row increase repeats. I feel this is probably folly to say so, but it seems a quick knit. I worked on it an hour while watching Medium. Knock wood...

My yarn is lovely. :)

YEAH BABY!

Kirsten and Jen are friends. Kirsten and Jen are knitters. Kirsten and Jen decided to knit Clapotis at the same time! So Jen started a blog for it and invited Kirsten.

You're welcome too! Join us for a mini knitalongi!
