sigh...

Oh dear Clapotis. I haven't even looked at you in weeks.

So, Jen...once we both get our butts back on-Clapotis-task I am thinking we will be completing them fairly quickly. Will we be following up with yet another exciting J&K KnitAlong? I would love to...are you up for it? What should our next project be? Hmm...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Final Clapotis Update.. I'm almost sad that its done.

Here we go, the picture of the finished clapotis. For size reference, the squares in that rug are 8 inches to a side, so if my math is done correctly, it is about 4.6 feet on either long side. It feels sooo nice to drape around your neck, I wrapped it up with just a little reluctance. This Clapotis is my first big accomplishment in knitting. I learned two new stitches (ktbl and kfb) and how they made dropping stitches on purpose possible. I also (thanks to Jen) took up using life lines, and I actually had to use them once. I have enough left over to make another one! But I think I'll use different colors this time and use the left overs for something else. But honestly, the only thing that made this pattern intermediate was the intimidation factor on that pattern. Once you skim through it, and learn the ktbl and kfb, it turned out to be nice and mellow. My next big thing will be a sweater, maybe. I'll probably wait for Big Girl Knits, or check out knittys sweater selection. I have one of them in mind, but can't remember its name.

Clapotis Finished!

I am done my clapotis! All I have left is to secure the weaved-in end. I'm afraid it will un-weave, since the yarn is so smooth (the finished product is so nice and slinky). I left a good long length of yarn at the end so I can do this, and do it carefully enough to look like a good job. Now I can finish my mostly ignored toque for my sister (to be paired with a starter scrapbooking kit), and the scrapbook of the childhood pictures of me and my sibs for my mom. And that will conclude my self-created gifts this Christmas. Unless I'm inspired to make a basic scarf for someone, which I'm fairly certain than I can whip in no time now. I don't think I'll be able to start anything complicated (or too challenging) till the new year. Unless I come across some yummy yarn when I go to Sudbury this Friday. I think there is a yarn shop there, I'll have to check. Btw, I'm not spilling the beans by mentioning above Christmas gifts, my mom doesn't have any interest in the internet, and I believe my sister is connectionless right now)

Picture of completed Clapotis to come.
PS, Section 4 is my favorite!

Progress, yeah right!

Well, I haven't forgotten my lovely Clapotis, but I've been working on some Christmas knitting. I am knitting a baby sweater for niece, a Henry the Bear (Jess Hutch) toy (I don't know WHO that's for yet), and a Liesel scarf. I don't have any idea if i'll finish any of it (though I'll probably finish the bear and the sweater) and I'm going to really try to work a little on Clapotis whenever I can (that is, when I'm too stupid to do lace knitting, tired of sleeves and done with Bear).

So, I'm sorry I've been away. I knitted about one straight repeat last week. Terrible.

Today is the day

I will return to Clapotis.

4 more repeats of section 3 to go.

I have dropped my eighth stitch, and am part way into my 9th repeat of section 3. I have a picture here of my Clapotis, although you cant see the eighth drop, since I haven't pulled it down very far yet. I'm making this clapotis for my husbands mother, so I hope she likes it. She told me about a lovely sweater that her sister made for her with a lace shawl collar, and she was so impressed with it that I'm getting nervous about my gift. I don't want to react angrily if she seems less impressed with my knitting. I feel like I'm being silly, but I want my gift to impress her, because she knows that I've started knitting and I want to show her my progress. Maybe I'm just being insecure. Yeah, there's no maybe about it, I am, lol.

Back to my progress:
Since I'm almost finished my first ball of yarn (335yd or 306m) and I'm finished the majority of section 3, I would say I'm in the ballpark of 50% (how do I change that neat little meter?). I'm knitting late into the night now, since during the day I usually have other distractions to attend to, and I need to get some real progress going now. Gifts go out at the latest by the 20th!

Oh dear.

Hi ladies. Just wanted to let you know that I am still knitting my precious and lovely Clapotis, however Christmas knitting has taken over entirely and I will not be progressing as well as I would like to be on the wrap. Because it's for me. I've decided that January and February (and maybe a couple months more, we'll see...) will be Kirs10Knits4Kirs10 months.

In related news: I hate these socks I'm knitting. I can't get them right. If I knit them on my 0's I like the fabric, but have to CO like 100 stitches. They are the bane of my existence and if they don't start behaving they WILL be dead to me.

Knit On fair friends.
